City Licensees take the lead in improving city’s Image
If you have been a regular visitor to Hockley over the past few months you would have noticed the boarded up building which used to trade as "Dim T" at the top of Carlton Street and how sorry this impressive old building looked. For those of you who have been passing over the last two weeks will have seen it developing into a piece of local artwork.
Nottingham Leisure Partnership Limited, a company set up by the City Licensees to improve the City Centre, provided funds to commission a local artist, Anthony Connelly of Urban Canvas, to transform the once drab hoarding into something for everyone to see - even to the point of using local visitors faces whom they met during the week and a piece of Nottingham Lace in the artwork!

Improvements to the outlook of Carlton Street in Nottingham
"There are many important buildings in the City which may become empty and we want to make sure they are as attractive closed as they were when they were open, particularly when it affects the businesses which are trading in the locality," said Pat Parkes, who chairs the Business Services Group of Nottingham Leisure Partnership Ltd who funded the project. "The City Council are supporting our projects and we hope to give visitors a reason to come back and bring new businesses to a revitalised City Centre."
Leader of Nottingham City Council Councillor Jon Collins said:
"This is a key city centre site and so we were happy to support moves to improve the look of the area while the premises are unfortunately empty. We will continue to do what we can to enhance the Hockley area for shoppers and traders."
This project is just one of the projects being delivered over the next 4 years by Nottingham Leisure Partnership. Taxi marshals will operate throughout the City Centre ranks every Friday and Saturday night from 10 pm - 4 am in a joint operation with Nottingham City Council and there is a First Wednesday Festival every month with great restaurant offers and many other events planned throughout the year.
